Death Valley is a land of extremes. The valley is very low (below sea level) desert and very hot in the summer, yet it is surrounded by mountains. Some of which peak at around 11,000 feet (3500 m) (over 2 miles). It has several different climates in the same location at the same time. The native Indians (Timbisha Shoshone) lived a very good life here for over a thousand years. They lived in the valley in the winter and in the mountains in the summer. [More]
