Germany - Nuremburg - Christmas Market

by Kimp 6. January 2018 22:10
The smell of wine mulling, chestnuts roasting, and gingerbread baking. The taste of Original Nurenburger Sausage hot off the grill and the sight of hand painted Christmas Ornaments. Christmas is just around the corner and I am one of the 2,000,000 people who will visit Nurenburg this year, to partake of the atmosphere and meander through the 180 spruce stalls of German handcrafted goodness. The largest and most visited Christkindlesmarket (Christ Childs Market) in Germany. Besides German crafts, vendors from several countries, rent booths to pedle their wares. It starts on the Friday before the first Sunday in Advent and goes until Dec 24th, unless that is on a Sunday. [More]

Germany - Esslingen - Christmas Market

by Kimp 21. December 2016 22:21
The Esslingen Christmas Market is one of my personal favorites. Just about every village in Germany that has an old town, has a Christmas Market. Some last only a week, and some, the entire Month of December. To attract more people, a few have gone to the effort of creating a uniqueness that sets them apart from the rest. Esslingen's theme is medieval, and most of the vendors are artisans, who sell their hand crafted items. It the artistry, and the personal touch, that makes it my favorite. [More]

Germany - Bad Durkheim

by Kimp 20. November 2016 01:57
The Durkheimer Wurstmarkt (Sausage Market) started in 1417 and has been held every year since. It is now, Europe’s largest wine festival, accommodating about about 600,000 people each year.
This is where wine meets relaxation and great times. The standard size glass at most wine festivals is 250 ml (1/3 of a bottle), here it is 500 ml (2/3 of a bottle). This isn’t cheap low grade box wine, it is of the highest quality, and is poured straight from the bottle that was vinted in.
It is held in the spa town of Bad Durkheim, which is in the Rhineland-Palatinate region in Western Germany, near the Rhine River which is known for producing some of the world’s greatest wines. All of the area around the town, is vineyard. It looks like a town sprouted in the middle of a massive vineyard. [More]
