Split, a very beautiful port town, dates back to about the 6th century BC.

It is the home of the retirement Palace of Diocletian. Diocletian was a powerful military leader who rose up through the ranks and became emperor. He's known as the great reformer of the Late Roman Empire.

His palace was divided into 4 quarters. The emperors quarters occupied one quarter. Another Quarter was mostly open and two quarters were a military compound.
One of the best parts of the palace, is the A cappella group's, that sing inside of the round stone room that used to be the entrance to the palace. It reminded me of when I was in the Navy. There was a shower area on the ship where several African American dudes would sing in the shower at the same time. Sometimes I would take a shower there just to be immersed in some awesome A cappella music.
